A high-powered delegation of Anioma traditional rulers, political leaders, and stakeholders on Wednesday met with leaders of the National Assembly to push forward the long-standing demand for the creation of Anioma State.

The delegation, which also included a representative of the Olu of Warri, presented their position as part of ongoing consultations surrounding the constitutional amendment process currently before the National Assembly.

Speaking during the engagement, members of the delegation emphasized that the call for Anioma State reflects the aspirations of the Anioma people for greater administrative autonomy, balanced development, and stronger representation within Nigeria’s federal structure.

They noted that the demand for the proposed state has remained consistent for decades and expressed optimism that the ongoing constitutional review provides an opportunity for the issue to receive serious legislative consideration.

The stakeholders also highlighted the cultural, historical, and economic identity of the Anioma people, arguing that the creation of the state would enhance governance, accelerate development, and bring government closer to the people.

National Assembly leaders who received the delegation acknowledged the concerns raised and reiterated that proposals for new states are part of the broader constitutional amendment discussions currently underway.

They assured the delegation that all submissions would be reviewed in line with constitutional procedures and national interest.

The meeting forms part of a series of engagements by groups across the country advocating for various constitutional amendments, including state creation, as lawmakers continue consultations ahead of the next stage of the review process.
