Delta State has recorded a significant step toward sustainable and affordable energy with the commissioning of a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) station in Asaba.

The project is expected to provide motorists with a cheaper and more environmentally friendly alternative to petrol, while supporting the state’s broader transition to cleaner energy sources.

The commissioning ceremony was conducted on behalf of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori by the Secretary to the State Government, Kingsley Emu.

Speaking at the event, the governor described the facility as a vital piece of infrastructure that will accelerate the adoption of CNG across Delta State. He noted that the station has the capacity to fuel up to 2,000 vehicles daily, providing a reliable and cost-effective option for motorists.

Governor Oborevwori emphasized that the state government is committed to expanding the initiative through the establishment of additional daughter stations in key locations, including Asaba and Warri, to ensure wider accessibility for residents and businesses.

He also encouraged private investors to key into the initiative by introducing CNG-powered buses and supporting infrastructure that will strengthen the state’s emerging clean energy ecosystem.

In addition to fuel supply, the stations will serve as vehicle conversion hubs, enabling motorists to easily convert their vehicles from petrol-powered systems to CNG technology.

The initiative forms part of Delta State’s ongoing efforts to reduce fuel costs, promote cleaner energy use, and build a more sustainable transportation system for the future.
