Senator Anthony Siyako Yaro, representing Gombe South Senatorial District, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ismaila Uba Misilli, Director-General of Press Affairs to Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, confirmed the defection in a statement on Friday. He described Yaro as the latest in a series of high-profile defections facilitated by the governor.
Three federal lawmakers from the PDP had earlier moved to the APC. They include House of Representatives Minority Whip Ali Isa JC, Dukku/Nafada Federal Constituency member Abdullahi El-Rasheed, and Yamaltu Deba representative Inuwa Garba.
According to Misilli, Yaro’s defection further strengthens the APC’s hold in Gombe State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Governor Yahaya, alongside House of Representatives Chief Whip Usman Bello Kumo and APC Deputy National Financial Secretary Hamma Adama Ali Kumo, received Senator Yaro into the party.
