The Yobe State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has adopted consensus as its mode of selecting candidates for the 2027 general elections.
The decision was reached at a stakeholders’ meeting of the party held in Damaturu. Party leaders said the consensus option was chosen to promote unity, reduce rancor, and ensure a smooth nomination process ahead of the polls.
Under the arrangement, party stakeholders will negotiate and agree on candidates for various elective positions, from state assembly to governorship, before ratification by delegates.
State party officials noted that the approach aligns with the APC constitution and has worked for the chapter in previous elections. They urged aspirants to cooperate with the process and put the party’s interest first.
The APC said it will commence full preparations for the 2027 elections once the national body releases the official timetable and guidelines.
