Human rights activist and publisher, Omoyele Sowore, on Monday openly mocked former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, during a court appearance at the Federal High Court in Abuja, delivering sharp remarks about his past role in government and the state of Nigeria’s justice system.

In a video that has since gone viral, Sowore was seen addressing Malami directly inside the court premises, suggesting that the former Minister of Justice was now facing the same system he once upheld.

“You see how it feels now to be persecuted. When you were with Buhari at that time, you were bragging. We warned you then that there is failure in the justice system, but you didn’t listen, and now the system is dealing with you,” Sowore said.

He added, “There is failure in the system. The system is dealing with you now.”

Sowore, who has had multiple confrontations with law enforcement agencies over the years, also introduced a symbolic moment during the encounter, offering Malami what he described as a “revolutionary cap.”

“I want to give you my cap. This is a revolutionary cap,” he said.

Even amid the criticism, Sowore acknowledged Malami’s composure, saying, “At least I’m glad that you are strong.”

The activist maintained that the flaws within Nigeria’s justice system cut across both government critics and former officials, stressing that no one is immune.

“We are not all on the same side… even the oppressors are oppressing you now,” he said.

Reaffirming his stance on governance and accountability, Sowore declared, “As far as the Nigeria project is concerned, no matter how powerful you people are, we will never support you. We are resilient till tomorrow.”

Responding briefly, Malami insisted he remained steadfast despite the situation, noting his continued participation in legal proceedings.

“I can never be down. Well, I have been attending all my court sittings. I will keep attending. And I remain strong,” he said.

He also revealed his ongoing involvement in political activities, adding that he had been attending meetings of the African Democratic Congress, although he was unable to be present at the opposition summit held in Ibadan, the Ibadan, over the weekend.
