Tragedy struck in Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State, on Thursday after a student of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku and a security operative reportedly lost their lives during a chase near Mega Chill Hotel.

Sources said the incident occurred in the afternoon after the student was allegedly found in possession of cannabis by security personnel. The student reportedly attempted to flee, leading to a pursuit around the area.

Eyewitnesses disclosed that during the chase, both the student and the security operative allegedly fell into an abandoned water reservoir filled with water near the hotel premises.

Residents and passersby reportedly rushed to the scene after hearing cries for help, but both victims were said to have died before rescue efforts could succeed.

The incident has thrown the Ogwashi-Uku community into mourning, with students and residents expressing shock over the development.
