Aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Southern Zone of Adamawa State have staged a protest against the alleged imposition of Kwamoti Laori, a House of Representatives candidate for the Demsa/Numan/Lamurde constituency.

The demonstration took place in Numan, where dozens of aspirants, party members, and supporters gathered at the APC Zonal Secretariat carrying placards proclaiming “No to Imposition”, “Allow Free Primaries”, and “Let the People Decide”.

The aggrieved House of Representatives aspirants said the protest was prompted by reports of a single candidate, Kwamoti, being “selected” without consultation or a primary election.

According to them, they are not against any individual but against a process that sidelines other aspirants and ignores the will of party members at the grassroots.

The Demsa/Numan/Lamurde constituency, one of eight federal constituencies in Adamawa State, has a former council chairman, Vrati Nzonzo, among those who aspired to the APC House of Representatives primary.

Nzonzo, who had, the day before the now-controversial primary of the APC, led a forum of aspirants to warn the party against the imposition of anybody in the name of consensus, has been one of the earliest to condemn the Saturday primary election as a predetermined exercise.
