A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), on Sunday, adopted Dumebi Kachikwu, as its sole presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.

Benues State ADC chairman and the Electoral Committee Chairman, Elias Adikwu, made the announcement, which was ratified by delegates at the party’s national convention in Abuja, on Sunday.

Mr Adikwu said, “We’ve arrived at a consensus candidate, I want to present to you the candidate for the ADC for 2027 presidential election, His Excellency, the father and leader of this party, the man who has made us to be here.

“I am very sure, with the way Nigeria is radiating, we know that we’re going to produce the president-elect of this country come 2027. So, I present to you, warmly and heartly, Honourable Chief Dumebi Kachukwu, as the candidate for ADC,” he stated, as he raised Mr Kachukwu’s hand to party members gathered amid cheers.

Newly elected factional ADC National Chairman, Abdulkadir Mohammed Bashir, thereafter, handed over the party’s flag to Mr Kachikwu, who waved it several times.

Accepting his nomination as the party’s presidential candidate, Mr Kachukwu, while stating that the country has been driven to disaster amid failed promises, expressed optimism that there’s still hope, and wants to be the driver to make the changes.

He said, “I stand before you to say, I accept your nomination to be the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress. I thank you all our party faithful, the chairman of our party, Alhaji Bashir, national working committee of our party, the BoT chairman, all the state chairmen, my wife and kids and all my family members who are here and not here also.

“Even though our leaders have navigated us to the precipice of disaster, we can still reverse course. Even though they sang us their failed promises, there’s still hope for us. This furnace we find ourselves now is not a place of failure but a workshop of destiny. We can’t give up now or ever. Our fatigue is proof that we’re unto something great.

“I must be in the driver’s sit to make the changes needed in Aso Villa. When you sit at the table, you get to decide what the menu is going to be. This is the seat I seek to occupy, so that together we’ll chart a new course for our nation and decide a new menu for our people. We will rebuild Nigeria from the group up and do away with the faulty and achaque colonial foundation that now carries our current existence.”
