Kogi: Man Allegedly Beats Teacher To Death For Disciplining His Son

The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the death of 30-year-old teacher Maryam Usman, who succumbed to injuries she sustained after she was allegedly assaulted by the father of a pupil she disciplined at Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School in Ugbamaka, Okpo District of Olamaboro Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat said the assault occurred on June 18, 2026, when the suspect, identified as Abdullahi Ishaka, allegedly stormed the school with two women and attacked the teacher over disciplinary action she had taken against the pupil.

Maryam Usman was initially treated at a hospital in Ugbamaka before being referred to Iko-Ojo Hospital in Okpo, where she later died on June 25.

According to the police, the suspects fled before officers arrived at the scene. Authorities said efforts are ongoing to apprehend them, after which the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

The incident has sparked outrage and renewed concerns over the safety of teachers carrying out their duties in schools.
