The Teranga Lions of Senegal have been knocked out of the 2026 World Cup after a dramatic end to a thrilling 120minutes of football on Wednesday night.

Senegal had it all good from the start of the game as they led 1-0 from the first half through Habib Diarra.

They doubled their lead in the 51st minute when Ismaïla Sarr scored again, as Senegal cruised in an exciting encounter.

But the game changed in the 86th minute when Romelu Lukaku pulled one back for Belgium, as just three minutes later, Youri Tielemans equalized.

A match that was initially going in favour of Senegal suddenly switched the other way as the draw forced both sides into extra time.

Belgium eventually sealed victory in the sixth minute of added time in extra time as Tielemans converted a penalty awarded by VAR after the captain’s leg was kicked by a Senegalese in their box.

Tielemans completed the unlikely comeback to help Belgium zoom into the second knockout stage of the 2026 World Cup.

Belgium will now face the winner of the round of 32 tie between USA and Bosnia, in last 16. Senegal will pack their bags.
