… Promises healing, unity in NBA

Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, the newly elected President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), has raised issues around challenges faced by the association with electronic voting and the use of technology in elections.

The new NBA President, who was fielding questions from State House Journalists, on Tuesday, after meeting with President Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday, disclosed that her discussion with the President centred on the challenges faced by the association with electronic voting and the use of technology in elections.

She however didn’t provide further details.

The issue of electronic voting and use of technology was a major topic debated by members of the National Assembly before the passage of the Electoral Act, 2026.

Badejo-Okunsaya who emerged victorious at recently conducted NBA election however, pledged to work with members of the association and stakeholders to heal divisions within the legal profession and restore unity in the association ahead of her inauguration next month.

Badejo-Okusanya said she was in touch with key stakeholders on the NBA, ahead of her inauguration, describing engagement and dialogue as central to her plans for the association.

She noted that the consultations are aimed at addressing concerns within the legal profession, rebuilding confidence among members and ensuring the Nigerian Bar Association remains united in advancing its statutory responsibilities.

“My swearing-in is not until the end of August. In the meantime, I continue to reach out to members, to stakeholders, so that we can work together to improve things, to heal the hurt anyone has, and to just continue to ensure that we do things to make sure that the NBA continues to fulfil its role to society,” she said.

She further assured members and the public that her administration would be guided by reconciliation, institutional stability and inclusive leadership, with a commitment to strengthening the association from within.

“Everything that needs to be done, I can assure members and the public that I will do. We’ll make sure that we unite ourselves. We’ll make sure that we put our house in order,” she added.
