Super Eagles defender Kevin Akpoguma is set to begin a new chapter in Italy after newly promoted Serie A club Frosinone reached an agreement to sign the centre-back, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

According to Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, Frosinone have completed negotiations for the 31-year-old, with contract details expected to be announced in the coming days.

Akpoguma leaves Hoffenheim after more than a decade with the German club, having joined from Karlsruher in 2013. He also spent time on loan at Fortuna Düsseldorf and Hannover 96 before establishing himself in Hoffenheim’s first team.

However, the defender fell down the pecking order under manager Christian Ilzer and made just nine appearances in his final season before becoming a free agent after his contract expired.

The Nigerian now heads to Serie A, where he will reunite with compatriot Akor Adams, who recently completed a record-breaking move to newly promoted Venezia. The duo will be among the Nigerian players looking to make an impact in Italy’s top flight next season.

Akpoguma, who represented Germany at youth level before switching his international allegiance to Nigeria, has earned eight caps for the Super Eagles since making his debut in 2020. His last appearance for the national team came in June 2023.

The move to Frosinone offers the experienced defender a chance to revive his career and return to regular first-team football as the club prepares for its Serie A campaign.
