In a move to strengthen collaboration between the security apparatus and the legislative arm of government, the Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, CP Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, led his management team on a courtesy visit to the Speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Tukur Bala Bodinga, in his office.

The high-level meeting underscored the importance of inter-agency synergy in tackling the evolving security challenges facing the state.

Discussions focused on securing robust legislative backing for the Police Command to enhance operational efficiency and provide the necessary legal framework for effective community policing and internal security management.

CP Shaffa emphasised that the legislature is a critical pillar of governance and development, according to a statement issued on Wednesday by DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, the Police Public Relations Officer.

He sought the continued support and cooperation of the House in enacting laws that would empower the police with the resources and statutory backing required to combat banditry, cross-border crimes, informants, and other security threats in the state.

In his response, Rt. Hon. Tukur Bala Bodinga reiterated the Assembly’s unwavering commitment to supporting the Police Command in its constitutional mandate to protect lives and property.

He noted that the House is prepared to enact legislation that will address contemporary security challenges and ensure the safety of all residents of Sokoto State.

The Speaker and the Commissioner also discussed the need to align legislative interventions with ongoing national discourse, including the push for state police and enhanced community security frameworks, to ensure Sokoto remains at the forefront of security innovation.

The visit highlighted the growing relationship between the two arms of government and their shared vision for a peaceful and prosperous Sokoto State.

The event concluded with the presentation of a commemorative plaque to the Honourable Speaker by the Police Commissioner and his team, followed by a group photograph to mark the occasion.
