…Union demands thorough Investigation, better mining Regulation, condoles families

Suspected gunmen have again launched an attack on the Kaduna community of Randagi in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of the state on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, killing three people and injuring 10 others, the Birnin Gwari Emirate Progressives Union (BEPU) has decried.

In a press release signed by its Chairman, Dr Isah Muhammad, on Wednesday, BEPU extended condolences to the people of Randagi and families of the victims, describing the incident as a painful loss to the entire society.

“We share the grief of the bereaved families and pray that Almighty Allah grants mercy to those who lost their lives, gives speedy recovery to the injured, and comforts everyone affected by this tragedy,” the statement said.

Citing Qur’an 5:32, BEPU noted that “Whoever kills a soul — it is as if he has killed all mankind,” stressing that Islam places the highest value on the sanctity of human life.

BEPU urged security agencies and relevant authorities to carry out a “prompt, thorough and transparent investigation” into the attack to establish the circumstances and bring perpetrators to justice.

The union also called for adequate medical care for the injured and support for families of those killed. “Justice is the foundation of every peaceful society.

“The Qur’an commands believers to ‘stand firmly for justice’ (Qur’an 4:135). A credible investigation will not only honour the victims but also strengthen public confidence and help prevent similar incidents in the future,” Dr Muhammad stated.

BEPU described Randagi as one of the historic communities in Birnin Gwari that has contributed significantly to agriculture and livestock production for generations.

“The community plays an important role in supporting food production in Kaduna State and across Northern Nigeria. Its people are widely respected for their hard work, peaceful nature and long tradition of farming and animal husbandry,” the statement added.

The union emphasised the need to protect farmers and farmland, quoting the Prophet Muhammad (SAW): “If a Muslim plants a tree or sows seeds, and then a bird, a person or an animal eats from it, it is regarded as charity for him.”

BEPU also raised concerns over growing mining activities in parts of Birnin Gwari LGA. While acknowledging that mining can create jobs and improve livelihoods, the union said it must be properly regulated to protect lives, public safety and the environment.

The group said it has received complaints about damage to public infrastructure, farmland and community assets linked to some mining operations.

It also cited reports of hazardous chemicals used during mineral processing, especially near streams and water sources.

“Such practices, if not properly regulated, can threaten public health, contaminate water sources, reduce agricultural productivity and endanger future generations,” BEPU warned.

The union called on the Federal Government, Kaduna State Government, and regulatory agencies to review and strengthen mining rules.

It demanded that mining be carried out only after proper environmental and safety assessments and in full compliance with existing laws.

BEPU further stated that mineral wealth should translate into direct benefits for host communities through better healthcare, quality education, improved roads, clean water and employment opportunities.

Quoting Shehu Usmanu Danfodiyo and education scholar John Dewey, the union stressed that leadership is a trust and that development must improve people’s lives through social progress and education.

The body appealed to residents of Randagi and the wider Birnin Gwari Emirate to remain calm, peaceful and law-abiding while investigations continue.

It urged citizens to cooperate with security agencies by providing lawful information to help protect lives and maintain peace.

Citing Qur’an 5:2, the union stated that “Cooperate with one another in righteousness and piety, and do not cooperate in sin and aggression.”

“We remain committed to working with government, community leaders, security agencies and other stakeholders to ensure that Birnin Gwari remains a peaceful, safe and prosperous place for all,” Dr Muhammad added.

He prayed for mercy for the deceased, healing for the injured, and lasting peace, justice and prosperity for Randagi, Birnin Gwari, Kaduna State and Nigeria.

However, the Kaduna state police command is yet to issue an official statement on the incident at the time of filing this report
