The Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2027 general election, Mr Peter Obi and other eminent personalities are set to attend the burial ceremony of Pa Okaji Simon Okorie, father of Hon Linus Okorie, the party senatorial candidate for Ebonyi South Senatorial Zone.
New Telegraph recalls that Late Pa Okaji, a respected community leader, elder statesman and educationist, died on November 14, 2025, at the age of 93.
In a tribute made available to newsmen on Wednesday, Hon Okorie, who represented Ohaozara, Onicha and Ivo federal constituency in the 8th and 9th National Assembly, described his late father as a man of integrity, wisdom and service whose contributions to education and community development would remain enduring legacies.
He said the sobriquet “Patron Eguani” was earned by the late patriarch through his lifelong commitment to the welfare and development of younger people in his community.
According to the burial programme, funeral activities of the late Okaji will commence with a Christian wake at Isiama Primary School, Onicha Igboeze in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, while the funeral mass takes place at the same venue on Friday, July 31, 2026.
It further stated that the remains of the elder statesman will be interred at his country home in Amokwe Isiama on the same day.
The late Okaji Simon Okorie Abaa is survived by several children, including Chief Linus Okorie, who served as Chairman of the House Committee on Agricultural Institutions from August 2015 to June 2019 during his tenure in the House of Representatives, among others.
