A traditional ruler in Osun state, Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Lawal, has warned the federal government not to compromise or rig the upcoming August 15, 2026, governorship election in the state.

The monarch spoke Tuesday during the inauguration of dualisation of the Akoda-Baptist High School-Okegada road in Ede, Governor Ademola Adeleke’s hometown.

“We are using this opportunity to appeal to the federal government not to compromise or rig the governorship election. He should leave us alone and allow each of us to vote where we so desire. They know that by the grace of God, the Accord Party will be victorious,” the monarch declared.

Oba Lawal recounted an incident involving opposition members at a wedding in Offa, criticizing political opponents for perceived disrespect toward Ede and asserting that the ancestors of the town are solidly backing Governor Adeleke.

He rallied residents to turn out en masse, stating that Ede’s votes would cover deficits from other local government areas and ensure victory of Adeleke.

“We are using this opportunity to appeal to President Bola Tinubu not to compromise/rig the governorship election. He should leave us alone and allow each of us to vote where we so desire,” the monarch said.

Speaking on the infrastructure project, Governor Adeleke described the road dualisation as a promise kept, noting its strategic importance in linking residential areas, schools, markets, and major routes to Osogbo and Ibadan.

“Ede is a town of scholars, warriors, and entrepreneurs. For so long, our people have suffered traffic congestion, flooding and a poor road network within the town,” he said.
