The Rotary Club of Abuja Asokoro Diamond has provided free medical care, Hepatitis screening and vaccination to residents of Chika community in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), as part of activities marking the 2026 World Hepatitis Day.

The medical outreach, themed “Hepatitis: Let’s Break It Down,” offered a range of preventive and primary healthcare services aimed at improving community health and promoting early detection of hepatitis and other preventable diseases.

Speaking during the outreach, President of the Rotary Club of Abuja Asokoro Diamond, Rotarian Olutola Ogunyemi, said the intervention was designed to complement government efforts in expanding access to quality healthcare, particularly for underserved communities.

He noted that, in addition to free consultations, hepatitis screening and vaccination, beneficiaries received mosquito nets, delivery kits, sanitary pads, diapers, liquid soap, bleach, deworming medication for children, as well as buckets and bowls to support healthy living.

Ogunyemi urged Nigerians to prioritise regular medical check-ups, vaccination and healthy lifestyle choices, stressing that early diagnosis and increased public awareness remain essential in reducing the burden of hepatitis and other preventable illnesses.

According to him, “Residents also benefited from maternal and child healthcare services, including health education sessions for pregnant women and nursing mothers on antenatal and postnatal care, exclusive breastfeeding and routine childhood immunisation.

Also speaking, the project chair, Rotarian Adeleke Shola Ayanronke, reaffirmed Rotary’s commitment to humanitarian service through sustainable health interventions.

She said the organisation would continue to collaborate with communities and relevant stakeholders to improve access to essential healthcare services and strengthen disease prevention efforts.

She noted, the outreach forms part of Rotary’s broader commitment to supporting vulnerable populations through health, education and community development initiatives, while advancing efforts to curb the spread of hepatitis through awareness, early detection and vaccination.
