Former Super Eagles forward Shola Ameobi has been appointed as Newcastle United’s new Head of Corporate Affairs, marking another significant milestone in his long-standing association with the Premier League club.
The appointment represents another step in Ameobi’s remarkable transition from professional football to football administration, reinforcing Newcastle’s commitment to retaining experienced former players in key leadership positions off the pitch.
The former striker has remained closely connected to the Magpies since retiring from professional football, steadily building a career behind the scenes while gaining valuable experience in player development and club operations.
Ameobi assumes the newly created executive role after serving as Newcastle United’s Loans Coordinator for the past seven years.
During his time in the position, he played a central role in managing the club’s loan programme, overseeing the development of young players sent out to gain first-team experience at other clubs.
His responsibilities included monitoring players’ progress, maintaining communication with partner clubs, providing guidance to young talents and ensuring their development aligned with Newcastle’s long-term football strategy.
The role enabled him to work closely with the club’s academy, coaching staff and football management, giving him extensive knowledge of Newcastle’s internal operations.
His successful tenure as Loans Coordinator earned him widespread respect within the organisation and ultimately paved the way for his elevation into senior management.
