The Kano State Emergency Management Agency has confirmed the death of five persons following a devastating rainstorm in Bichi Local Government Area of the state last week.

The Executive Secretary of the agency, Alhaji Isyaku Kubarachi, confirmed the figure in a telephone interview with PUNCH Metro on Thursday.

“Five persons lost their lives in Bichi as a result of the rainstorm, not eight as erroneously reported by some media outlets,” he said.

He said the personnel of the agency had already visited the area, where they assessed the damage caused by the disaster.

“It was during the assessment visit that we were able to ascertain the actual number of casualties, houses and properties destroyed during the incident,” Kubarachi said.

According to him, the agency had already compiled a comprehensive report and submitted it to the state government for immediate assistance to the victims.

“We have forwarded our report to the state government. As soon as we receive relief materials, they will be distributed to the affected persons as usual,” the executive secretary added.

Recall that the rainstorm, which occurred on Wednesday, 22nd July 2026, had also destroyed houses and other valuable properties worth millions of naira.

Meanwhile, the Kano State House of Assembly has urged the state government to urgently provide relief materials to the affected persons to alleviate their suffering.

The resolution followed the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by the member representing Bichi Constituency, Lawan Shehu, during a plenary presided over by the Speaker, Jibril Falgore, on Wednesday, 29th July 2026.
