British actor Tom Holland has revealed that plans are already being developed for another actor to inherit the Spider-Man role when his time as the Marvel superhero ends.

Holland, 30, discussed the future of the franchise during an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast on Thursday.

“There’s a whole plan that we have been working on, I would say, since we finished Spider-Man: No Way Home,” Holland said.

“It’s laid out. It’s going to change for sure, but I have a really clear vision for the passing on of the baton, and I think it’s really exciting.”

The actor said helping to prepare his eventual successor was one of the things he most wanted to accomplish before leaving the role.

Holland previously expressed his desire to mentor the next Spider-Man in the same way Robert Downey Jr. guided him during his early years in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Downey played Iron Man alongside Holland before returning to the franchise as Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday.

Holland has also suggested Adolescence star Owen Cooper as a possible successor.

“Owen Cooper would be awesome,” Holland said in June. “Obviously, he’s super-talented and the talk of the town right now.”

Holland made his Spider-Man debut as Peter Parker in Captain America: Civil War in 2016 before leading Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017.

He subsequently appeared in Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: Far From Home and Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Holland became the third actor to portray Spider-Man on the big screen, following Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.

His latest film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, opened in cinemas on Friday.
