The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has deployed Commissioner of Police (CP) Samuel Erale Etaifo to Osun State as the Commissioner of Police in charge of election security ahead of the August 15, 2026, governorship election.

The deployment, announced on Friday by the Force Headquarters, forms part of the Police’s comprehensive security strategy to ensure a peaceful, secure and credible electoral process across the state.

According to a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, CP Etaifo will coordinate and oversee all election security operations in Osun State, working closely with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders to safeguard voters, election officials and sensitive electoral materials during the poll.

The Police, however, clarified that the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Osun State Command, CP Ibrahim Gotan, remains the substantive head of the state command and will continue to supervise routine policing activities while providing administrative and operational support for election security.

The Force also reminded all personnel deployed for election duties to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, impartiality and strict compliance with the law, including adherence to the Code of Conduct for Security Personnel on Electoral Duty.

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, urged political parties, candidates, supporters and members of the public to remain peaceful, law-abiding and cooperate fully with security agencies to ensure a successful and violence-free governorship election.

The deployment comes as security agencies intensify preparations ahead of the August 15 Osun governorship election.
