Emergency responders at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos are currently battling a fire outbreak that erupted at Terminal 2 of the international wing.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) confirmed the development in an official statement via its official X handle, reassuring passengers and stakeholders that no casualties or losses of life have been recorded from the scene.

According to FAAN, the authority’s Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service (ARFFS) was immediately deployed following the outbreak and is actively working to completely contain the situation and prevent further damage to infrastructure.

“The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) wishes to inform the public that a fire incident has occurred at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos,” the statement read.

“The FAAN Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service (ARFFS) is currently responding to the incident and working diligently to contain the situation. There have been no reported casualties or loss of life.”

While the immediate cause of the fire and the full extent of the structural damage remain unconfirmed, emergency protocol was activated to safeguard passengers, airport staff, and airline operations within the affected facility.

MMIA Terminal 2 handles significant daily passenger traffic and international carrier operations. FAAN noted that formal updates regarding the cause of the incident, impact on flight schedules, and operational status of the terminal will be communicated as soon as detailed assessments are concluded by the response teams on the ground.
