Traditional rulers in the Kwara South Senatorial District of Kwara State have urged candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to justify the confidence reposed in them if elected.
Speaking when APC candidates paid a “thank-you” visit to stakeholders in Kwara South for their steadfastness and loyalty during the party’s recently concluded primaries, the Onipe of Ipe, Oba Mufutau Lawal, who spoke on behalf of the traditional rulers, said the people expected the candidates to surpass the performance of the incumbent government in the state.
The traditional rulers, who offered prayers for the success of the APC in the forthcoming 2027 general elections, reaffirmed the commitment of the people of Kwara South to the party and pledged their support for the candidates.
The monarchs also commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for the developmental strides recorded across the state.
Also speaking during visits to Ilemona, Erin-Ile and Offa, the state APC Chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, said the people of Kwara South had remained committed to the APC, contributing to the successful conduct of the primaries that produced candidates for all elective positions in the area, including the party’s governorship candidate, Mr Salihu Yakubu-Danladi.
He said that while the APC had successfully concluded its candidate selection process, some political parties were still grappling with internal crises over their governorship candidates despite the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
According to him, some parties were yet to resolve disputes arising from the emergence of multiple governorship candidates, even after the deadline for the submission of candidates.
“Our purpose in coming here is to thank the people of Oyun and Offa Local Government Areas for standing firmly with the party during the primaries that produced our candidates.
“We appreciate your steadfastness, commitment and loyalty to the APC. We could not take your support for granted, which is why we deemed it necessary to return and express our gratitude,” he said.
Fagbemi said the APC governorship candidate, the senatorial candidate, candidates for the House of Representatives and candidates for the House of Assembly joined the visit to personally appreciate party members and stakeholders for their support.
He added that the delegation paid homage to traditional rulers in the area to seek their blessings and thank them for their continued support for peace and democratic processes.
