A group of stakeholders in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) under the auspices of APC Integrity Group has made case for the former Nasarawa state Governor, Senator Tanko Umar Al-Makura, to lead the Presidentual Campaign Council (PCC) as Director General for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
In a statement jointly signed by the group’s National Coordinator, Ibrahim Mamman, and National Secretary, Goodluck Okafor, Sunday in Abuja, said the success of the APC’s presidential campaign would largely depend on the emergence of a credible leader with proven capacity, unquestionable loyalty, and the ability to unite party members.
According to the statement, Senator Al-Makura possesses the qualities required to lead the party’s campaign ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
“We believe that the success of the APC’s presidential campaign will depend largely on the emergence of a leader with proven capacity, unquestionable loyalty to the party, broad national appeal, and a political record free from divisive controversies.
“After a thorough assessment of the personalities being considered, the APC Integrity Group is convinced that former Governor of Nasarawa State and former Senator representing Nasarawa South, Senator Tanko Umar Al-Makura, stands out as the most suitable candidate for the position of DG.
“Senator Al-Makura remains one of the few founding fathers of the progressive movement whose political journey has been defined by discipline, integrity, humility, and service. His role in the growth and consolidation of the APC, particularly in the North Central region and across the country, is well documented. He has consistently demonstrated commitment to the ideals of the party and has maintained cordial relationships across political, ethnic, and religious divides.”
The group further stated that as the country approaches another crucial electoral cycle, the APC requires a campaign manager capable of uniting all tendencies within the party, coordinating stakeholders effectively, and inspiring confidence among party members and the electorate.
It noted that Senator Al-Makura’s reputation as a bridge-builder and a leader without political baggage makes him a strong contender for the position.
“Importantly, Senator Al-Makura’s reputation as a bridge-builder and a leader without political baggage makes him a compelling choice. He commands respect among party leaders, governors, legislators, youth groups, women organisations, and grassroots supporters. His experience in governance, legislation, party administration, and national politics places him in a unique position to lead a successful and issue-based presidential campaign.
“We are confident that his appointment will strengthen party cohesion, energise the campaign structure, and enhance the APC’s prospects of securing a resounding victory in the 2027 presidential election.”
The APC Integrity Group also urged party faithful to remain committed to the unity, stability, and growth of the party, stressing that merit, loyalty, competence, and integrity should continue to guide the administration and leadership of the ruling party.
