Abducted High Court judge Faruku Bunza regains freedom

Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza of the Kebbi State High Court has regained freedom after spending one week in captivity.

The judge returned home safely on Monday, according to the Kebbi State Police Command and members of his family.

Police spokesperson Bashir Usman said the kidnappers demanded ransom but maintained that no money was paid to secure Bunza’s release.

He said security agencies had intensified investigations to identify and apprehend those responsible for the abduction.

The police appealed to residents to provide information that could assist the investigation, assuring that the identities of informants would be protected.

A member of Bunza’s family confirmed that the judge had returned home, sparking celebrations among relatives and well-wishers.

“We are in jubilation and full of gratitude to God for seeing our own return safely from captivity,” the relative said.

“He was just released and has returned home after spending one week with the bandits.”

The family thanked the Kebbi State judiciary, security agencies and residents who offered prayers and support during the judge’s captivity.

Details of the circumstances surrounding his release were not immediately disclosed.

Bunza was abducted by armed men from his residence in Bunza Local Government Area on July 26.
