Tolu Arokodare scores on Ajax debut

New Ajax striker Tolu Arokodare made a perfect start to life at the club by scoring on his debut for the Dutch giants in their 3-1 pre-season victory over FC Volendam at the Kras Stadion in Volendam on Sunday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Arokodare, who came on as a 71st-minute substitute for Marcos Leonardo, rounded off the scoring after pouncing on a miscued clearance inside the FC Volendam box.

Leonardo had earlier scored to put Ajax in control after Anton Gaaei opened the scoring.

The striker recently joined Ajax on a season-long loan deal from Wolverhampton Wanderers, with an option to make the move permanent.

The goal marked a positive beginning for Arokodare, who arrived in Amsterdam following an impressive spell at Racing Genk before moving to Wolves.

His time at Wolves was cut short acrimoniously after the club accused him of disrupting their training amid his potential transfer away from the club.

Arokodare denied that he refused to train and said in a statement posted on social media, “Throughout my career, I have always taken great pride in conducting myself professionally and maintaining the highest training standards.”

The 25-year-old moved to Molineux in a £24m deal from Genk on a four-year contract in September 2025 after scoring 31 league goals in 79 appearances for the Belgian side.

But he could not replicate that success in the Premier League, finding the net just three times in 33 games as Wolves were relegated to the Championship.

Ajax finished fifth in the Eredivisie last term and will play in the Conference League this season, provided they come through the play-offs.
