The Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) has raised the alarm over a fake document circulating in the public domain seeking financial support for the production, printing and nationwide distribution of the Revised Basic Education Curriculum (BEC), declaring that it never issued such a request.

The Executive Secretary of NERDC, Prof. Salisu Shehu, described the purported correspondence as “fictitious, frivolous and unauthorised,” warning government agencies, educational institutions, development partners and other stakeholders to disregard it.

In a disclaimer personally signed and made available to journalists on Monday in Abuja, Shehu stressed that the Council had not written to any institution requesting financial assistance for the production, printing or distribution of the revised curriculum for the 2026/2027 academic session.

He said: “Our attention has been drawn to fictitious and frivolous documents and correspondence purported to emanate from the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council, requesting financial support for the production, printing, and nationwide distribution of the Revised Basic Education Curriculum (BEC) covering the 2026/2027 academic session.

“The Management of NERDC hereby strongly and unequivocally disclaims any document or correspondence, under any guise or arrangement, requesting support from any institution for the production, printing and distribution of the Revised Basic Education Curriculum (BEC).”

The NERDC boss explained that the Council had already made adequate arrangements for the production, printing, dissemination and distribution of the revised curriculum through the appropriate government channels.

“Adequate plans have already been put in place for the effective production, printing, dissemination and distribution of the Revised Basic Education Curriculum through the appropriate federal and state authorities, agencies and departments in the education sector.”

Shehu therefore urged government institutions, educational organisations, development partners and members of the public not to honour or respond to any request purportedly issued by NERDC seeking financial support for the curriculum exercise.

He said all official information relating to the implementation of the revised curriculum would only be communicated through the Council’s recognised communication channels.

The Executive Secretary also reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to transparency and protecting the credibility of Nigeria’s education system.

“The Council remains committed to maintaining diligence in its official communications and safeguarding the integrity and sanctity of Nigeria’s national curriculum.”

Shehu further assured stakeholders that NERDC would continue to provide authentic information on the Revised Basic Education Curriculum through its official platforms, while urging the public to remain vigilant against fraudulent documents and impersonation.
