The office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Zone 17, Akure, Ondo State, has invited the traditional ruler of Ayetoro-Ekiti in Ekiti State, Oba Olufisan Ajayi Samuel, over allegations relating to the disappearance of seven electricity transformers in the community.

The invitation followed a petition filed by legal practitioner, Mr Iyiola Afolabi, who accused the monarch of alleged conspiracy and theft in connection with the missing transformers.

Investigation underway

A letter of invitation dated July 21, 2026, and signed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration, Abimbola Abdulraheem, on behalf of the AIG, directed the monarch to appear before the Officer in Charge of Surveillance 1 at the Zone 17 Police Headquarters in Akure.

According to the letter, the police are investigating a complaint in which the monarch’s clarification is considered necessary.

The invitation forms part of an ongoing investigation into allegations surrounding the vandalisation and disappearance of electricity infrastructure in Ayetoro-Ekiti.

Petition alleges complicity

A copy of the petition obtained by Daily Sun alleged that Oba Olufisan was complicit in the vandalisation and receiving of seven transformers reportedly stolen from different locations within Ayetoro-Ekiti.

The petition was reportedly filed on behalf of Messrs Dayo Ogunsanmi, Shola Aderemi and Folorunsho Oni, who claimed that the transformers were unlawfully removed from their designated locations.

The petitioners urged the police to thoroughly investigate the matter, recover the missing transformers and ensure anyone found culpable is brought to justice.

Earlier complaint revisited

According to Mr Afolabi, the matter is not a fresh one, as a similar petition was submitted to the office of the AIG in 2022 over the alleged theft of the same seven transformers.

He stated that after investigating the complaint at the time, the police allegedly advised the suspects to return the transformers to their original locations.

However, the lawyer claimed that despite the earlier intervention, the transformers have not been returned four years later, prompting the renewed petition and fresh police action.

No response from monarch

As of the time of filing this report, Oba Olufisan Ajayi Samuel had not publicly responded to the allegations or the police invitation.

Similarly, the Nigeria Police Force has not released further details regarding the progress of the investigation or whether any charges have been filed against anyone in connection with the case.

The latest development has generated interest within Ayetoro-Ekiti and beyond, with residents awaiting the outcome of the police investigation into the allegations surrounding the missing transformers.

The invitation by the AIG’s office does not amount to a finding of guilt, as police investigations are expected to determine the facts surrounding the allegations before any further action is taken.
