Four Ugandan boxers and one Pakistani boxer have reportedly gone missing in Scotland after the conclusion of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The missing Ugandan athletes are Angel Katushabe, Nuhu Batte, Ibrahim Khemis, and Emily Nakalema, who failed to return home with the rest of Team Uganda. Pakistani boxer Qudrat Ullah has also been reported missing.

According to Pulse Sports Uganda, the four Ugandan boxers are suspected to have remained in the UK to seek asylum in pursuit of better boxing opportunities, although the claim has not been officially verified.

Police Scotland confirmed it had received reports of several missing athletes and said investigations are ongoing in collaboration with the UK Home Office.

“We have received reports of several athletes who are unaccounted for. Enquiries are ongoing to assess the circumstances, and early engagement is taking place with the Home Office,” a police spokesperson said.

Uganda’s Ministry of Education and Sports is yet to issue an official statement, while Pakistani authorities have also not commented on the disappearance of Qudrat Ullah.

The incident is not the first involving Ugandan athletes, with several competitors reportedly disappearing after previous Commonwealth Games in 2014 and 2018 to seek asylum abroad.
