The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Zamfara state chapter, has called for intensified efforts by the Federal Government and the Zamfara State Government to address security, economic and developmental challenges affecting residents of the state.

The council made the call in a statement signed by its Chairman, Hon. Suleiman Salisu Bungudu, and Secretary, Hon. Bashir Abdullahi, following what it described as an emergency meeting and consultations with member political parties, community leaders and other stakeholders across the state’s 14 local government areas. According to the statement, the meeting reviewed the security situation and socio-economic conditions in the state and identified areas requiring greater government attention.

Calls for improved security

IPAC expressed concern over the security situation in parts of Zamfara, noting that incidents of banditry and kidnapping have continued to affect some communities.

The council appealed to the Federal Government and security agencies to sustain ongoing operations aimed at restoring lasting peace and protecting lives and property.

It also urged residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing credible information that could assist ongoing efforts to tackle criminal activities.

Support for farmers

The council appealed to the Zamfara State Government to strengthen support for farmers during the current farming season by ensuring the timely distribution of fertilisers, improved seedlings and other agricultural inputs.

According to IPAC, agriculture remains the backbone of the state’s economy, making it important to provide farmers with the necessary support to enhance food production and improve livelihoods.

The council expressed optimism that increased investment in agriculture would contribute to food security and economic recovery.

Development and accountability

IPAC also encouraged the state government to continue prioritising transparency and accountability in the execution of infrastructure projects.

The council called for equitable distribution of development projects across the state to ensure that both urban and rural communities benefit from government interventions.

It noted that expanding development initiatives to more communities would help address infrastructure deficits and improve the quality of life of residents.

Economic concerns

The council further highlighted the need for sustained efforts to address unemployment and economic hardship through policies that encourage investment, job creation and youth empowerment.

It also advocated greater utilisation of qualified professionals from Zamfara in government programmes and development initiatives, saying this would further strengthen service delivery and promote inclusive governance.

Appeal to federal authorities

IPAC urged the Federal Government to continue giving priority attention to Zamfara’s security and developmental needs.

The council also encouraged political leaders from the state at the national level to continue supporting initiatives capable of improving security, infrastructure and economic opportunities for residents.

According to the statement, stronger collaboration among all stakeholders would accelerate development and improve public confidence.

Lawmakers, governor urged to sustain efforts

The council called on members of the National Assembly representing Zamfara State to continue advocating policies, projects and interventions that would improve the welfare of their constituents.

It also appealed to Governor Dauda Lawal to sustain efforts aimed at strengthening security, expanding development projects and improving social welfare across the state’s 14 local government areas.

IPAC expressed confidence that greater collaboration between the Federal Government, the state government, lawmakers, traditional institutions and development partners would help address the challenges facing the state.

Commitment to constructive engagement

The council reaffirmed its commitment to constructive engagement with governments at all levels in the interest of peace, democracy and sustainable development.

It also urged residents to continue promoting peaceful coexistence and support lawful efforts aimed at improving governance and strengthening democratic institutions in Zamfara State.
