Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, has charged local government chairmen in the state to ensure effective service delivery to the people until their last day in office.

The governor added that his administration will continue to encourage and support the third tier of government in its bid to achieve sustainable grassroots development.

Makinde stated this at Aleshinloye, the headquarters of Ibadan South-West Local Government Area, during the inauguration of a new office for the council chairman, built by the chairman, Kehinde Akande.

Represented by the Commissioner for Public Works, AbdulMojeed Mogbonjubola, the governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to providing a conducive working environment for civil servants and political office holders serving in the local government system.

Makinde also urged local government chairmen to continue implementing projects capable of contributing to the socio-economic development of the people in their respective areas.

The council chairman explained that the project was conceived to enhance service delivery, noting that the office previously occupied by the chairman belonged to the legislative arm of the council.

He stated that his administration had, in the last few months, completed and inaugurated two primary healthcare centres at Akuro and Bode, to improve access to quality healthcare.

He said: “We have also undertaken the construction and rehabilitation of roads, installed solar-powered streetlights in strategic locations, drilled boreholes to provide potable water, established an ICT centre and a modern library to promote digital literacy and youth empowerment, and commenced the construction of an Amotekun office.

“Your Excellency, today’s inauguration is another clear demonstration that when leadership is driven by vision, integrity and commitment, meaningful development becomes inevitable.”

On his part, the Political Head of Ibadan West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Alhaji Tajudeen Adigun, also thanked the governor for providing an enabling environment that has empowered local governments to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people.

He, however, urged residents to sustain their support for the administration at both the state and local government levels, pledging that the council will continue to implement projects and programmes aimed at improving their standard of living.
