The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested five suspects in separate operations over alleged burglary and possession of suspected cannabis, recovering stolen household items and other valuables.

The command said operatives of its Violent Crime Response Unit made the arrests during routine patrols across the Bauchi metropolis.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, the first operation was carried out on August 3, 2026, at about 2:00 p.m. in Doya Quarters, Bauchi.

Habib said, “On August 3, 2026, at about 1400hrs, a VCRU patrol team, while on routine patrol at Doya Quarters, Bauchi, acting on reasonable suspicion, intercepted a tricycle (Keke NAPEP) with registration number TRR123VD conveying three occupants.”

He identified the suspects as Sadiq Abdullahi, 27, and Muhammad Suleman, 18, both of Unguwar Sarakuna, Bauchi, and Aliyu Abubakar, 21, the tricycle rider from Kofar Gombe, Bauchi.

The police spokesman added, “Upon search, the team recovered four boxes containing assorted new shoes, clothes and jewellery, one 6kg gas cylinder, one 32-inch LG flat-screen television and one tabletop gas cooker. During preliminary interrogation, the suspects voluntarily confessed to conspiring with one Nanu (not his real name), who is currently at large, to break into a dwelling house at Unguwar Sarakuna and steal the items.”

Habib further disclosed that the police traced the owner of the burgled house and his wife, who confirmed that the recovered items belonged to them.

He said, “In her statement, the wife disclosed that she travelled to Jos on July 31, 2026, and left the property in her room. However, she alleged that some of the clothes in the boxes and a gold earring were missing.”

In another operation on the same day, the police arrested two additional suspects over alleged possession of suspected cannabis.

Habib stated, “On the same August 3, 2026, at about 1600hrs, the same VCRU patrol team, while on routine patrol at Bayan Gari, intercepted and arrested two suspects identified as Mansur Sani, 25, of Bakin Kura, Bauchi, and Umar Muhammad, 30, of the same address.”

He added, “At the point of arrest, the duo were seen exchanging two parcels of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.”

The police spokesperson said investigations into both cases were ongoing.

According to him, “Efforts are ongoing to trace and arrest the fleeing suspect, Nanu, in connection with the burglary case, while a discreet investigation is also ongoing to unmask the supplier of the suspected Indian hemp.”

Habib added that “the suspects will subsequently be charged in court upon the completion of the investigation.”
