The Sokoto State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education is pleased to announce that the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Ahmad Ladan Ala, has been selected to receive the Award of Excellence as the Best Commissioner for Education in the North West Geopolitical Zone.

The prestigious recognition followed recommendations made by the National Award Committee in acknowledgement of Prof. Ala’s exemplary leadership, dedication, and outstanding contributions to the advancement of education in Sokoto State and the North West region.

According to the organisers, the award will be presented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, CON, during the Grand Finale of the 2026 Democracy Day Anniversary President Inter Senior Secondary School Debate Championship, scheduled to hold on Thursday, 20 August 2026, at the Rivers State Ministry of Education, Port Harcourt.

The Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency Siminalayi Fubara, will serve as the Chief Host of the event.

The notification conveying the award was signed by Hon. Muhammad Usman, Chairman of the National Advisory Board, President School Debate Nigeria (PSDN).

The Ministry congratulates Prof. Ahmad Ladan Ala on this well deserved national recognition and reaffirms its commitment to supporting policies and programmes that promote quality basic and secondary education in Sokoto State.

The honour further reflects the Ministry’s unwavering dedication to educational excellence, innovation, and human capital development according to the Public Relation Officer of the ministry, Ibrahim Muhammad iya.
