Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke popularly known as Davido has declared that he is confident of winning any election in Nigeria if the country’s electoral process is free, fair and transparent.

The singer made the remark during a livestream with comedian Carter Efe, who asked whether he would consider contesting for the governorship of a state.

Responding, Davido dismissed the idea of joining politics under the current electoral system, alleging that election results are often manipulated.

“Where in Nigeria do they allow elections to speak for themselves? I don’t have time for all that. I’m not someone you can cheat in an election and expect me to go home quietly. If you cheat me, I will do something about it,” he said.

The award-winning artiste added that he would rather focus on his music career until the country’s electoral process becomes more transparent.

“I’ll just continue doing my music until there’s transparency. Then I can think about politics because nobody can beat me in any election, ever,” Davido declared.

When Carter Efe jokingly suggested he should run for president, Davido insisted that he would emerge victorious if Nigerians were allowed to vote freely.

“If there’s a free and fair election and everybody in Nigeria votes, I’ll win,” he said.

Davido, however, maintained that the lack of transparency in the electoral system discourages him from pursuing political office.

Referring to the forthcoming governorship election in Osun State, the singer said he was closely monitoring developments.

“But because of the system, there’s no transparency; they write results. We are waiting to see what they will do in Osun,” he added.
