The Adamawa State Scholarships Trust Fund, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, has commenced the screening of over 2,000 applicants seeking admission into its foreign postgraduate scholarship programme.

The exercise, according to the statement, is expected to produce 100 successful candidates who will receive sponsorship to pursue Master’s degree programmes in selected universities in the Republic of Turkey.

The Executive Director of the Scholarships Trust Fund, Dr Joshua Kwanamu, described the programme as a strategic investment in the future of the State.

This is as he added that the initiative aims to expand access to quality education and develop the State’s human capital.

Speaking during the screening exercise in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, Dr Joshua Kwanamu maintained that “Education remains one of the most effective tools for social and economic transformation”.

According to him, the scholarship scheme is targeted at academically outstanding but indigent graduates of Adamawa origin, with beneficiaries expected to study in priority disciplines including Engineering and Technology, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, Cybersecurity and Information Technology, Energy and Sustainable Development, Business Administration and Finance, Public Policy and International Relations, as well as Biomedical and Health Sciences.

He explained that the screening exercise is designed to verify applicants’ credentials and ensure that only candidates who satisfy the eligibility requirements proceed to the next stage of the selection process.

“The large number of applications received demonstrates the confidence young people have in the state’s commitment to educational development, stressing that the selection process would be guided strictly by merit, transparency and fairness, as the Trust Fund is committed to giving every qualified applicant an equal opportunity regardless of background”, he emphasised.

He said all shortlisted applicants will sit for a Computer-Based Test (CBT), which will further assess their academic competence before the final selection is made.

He acknowledged the highly competitive nature of the programme, noting that selecting only 100 beneficiaries from more than 2,000 applicants would require a rigorous and objective assessment process.

He appealed to candidates who may not be successful to remain hopeful and continue pursuing academic excellence, assuring them that future opportunities could become available.

He recalled that previous batches of beneficiaries had been sponsored to pursue specialised studies in countries including India and Turkey, while arrangements for additional international study opportunities are also being pursued.

Dr Kwanamu commended Governor Fintiri for sustaining investments in education, saying the scholarship programme is intended not only to support deserving students but also to produce highly skilled professionals who will contribute to the long-term development and global competitiveness of Adamawa State.

The screening exercise is expected to be followed by the Computer-Based Test, after which the final list of successful candidates will be announced by the Adamawa State Scholarships Trust Fund.
