The Anambra State Police Command and the Anambra State Government have honoured the recently promoted Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Ikioye Orutugu, with a series of events marking his birthday and retirement from the Nigeria Police Force after decades of service.

The activities, which began on August 3, included a birthday celebration attended by heads of sister security agencies, government officials, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other stakeholders who offered prayers and goodwill messages in appreciation of his distinguished policing career.

On Wednesday, August 5, the Anambra State Government hosted AIG Orutugu at a State Executive Council send-forth ceremony in recognition of his contributions to security, peace, and public safety in the state.

Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, alongside members of the State Executive Council and other senior government officials, described Orutugu as an exceptional police officer whose tenure as Commissioner of Police strengthened police-community relations, enhanced inter-agency collaboration, and recorded significant successes in the fight against crime.

The governor also commended the retired police chief for fostering strategic partnerships with stakeholders and improving public confidence in policing across the state.

A ceremonial Pull-Out Parade was also held at the Anambra State Police Command Headquarters in Awka to formally mark the end of Orutugu’s career in the Nigeria Police Force.

The event attracted serving and retired police officers, family members, traditional rulers, government officials, friends, and other dignitaries who gathered to celebrate his years of dedicated service.

In line with the traditions of the Nigeria Police Force, the ceremony featured an inspection of the parade, a ceremonial procession, the conferment of policing honours, and tributes from colleagues and stakeholders, who praised Orutugu’s professionalism, exemplary leadership, operational excellence, and people-oriented policing style.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Anambra State Police Command expressed appreciation to the state government, sister security agencies, traditional institutions, religious leaders, community leaders, and residents for their support throughout Orutugu’s tenure as Commissioner of Police.

The Command wished the retired AIG good health, a fulfilling retirement, and continued success in his future endeavours, while reaffirming its commitment to protecting lives and property and sustaining the security gains achieved under his leadership.
