DERA - Wednesday, August 05, 2026
The Kwara State Government has confirmed the release of 176 persons abducted during the February 3, 2026 assault on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area.
In a statement posted Wednesday on its official Facebook page, the government expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, security forces, and all stakeholders who contributed to the rescue effort, writing: “Alihamdulillaah and kudos… We are grateful.”
The victims were seized when Boko Haram-linked extremists stormed the rural communities on motorcycles, unleashing a coordinated attack that lasted several hours.
The assault, described as one of the deadliest in Kwara’s history, claimed more than 200 lives, left dozens injured, destroyed homes and businesses, and displaced many residents.
Authorities say the successful rescue marks a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to restore peace and security in the region.
