Former Kano State Governor and Vice presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has aligned himself with the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), commending the religious leaders for their “courage and patriotism” in addressing the severe economic hardship and escalating insecurity in the country.

In a press statement released on Tuesday, Kwankwaso affirmed that the clerics’ recent intervention directly mirrors the everyday struggles of ordinary Nigerians, dismissing claims that the concerns were politically motivated.

The statement comes amidst national debate following the CBCN’s critical assessment of the country’s socio-economic conditions.

Kwankwaso emphasized that the issues highlighted by the Bishops, ranging from the soaring cost of living to declining public confidence transcend political affiliations.

“I commend the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) for demonstrating courage and patriotism by drawing attention to the realities confronting our nation,” Kwankwaso said.

“Their concerns regarding the rising cost of living, worsening insecurity, declining public confidence, and the hardship faced by millions of Nigerians are neither partisan nor isolated; they reflect the daily experiences of ordinary citizens across every region of our country,” he added.

Commenting on the structural challenges facing the nation, the former governor lamented the stark contrast between Nigeria’s vast natural wealth and the socio-economic conditions of its citizenry.

Millions of households continue to struggle under severe inflation, unemployment, and dwindling purchasing power, while access to quality healthcare, basic education, and economic mobility remains significantly restricted.

Kwankwaso noted that the scale of the current crisis requires “urgent, sincere, and people-centred responses from those entrusted with leadership.”

The political leader urged citizens across all geopolitical zones to remain actively involved in demanding accountability and policy execution focused on human welfare.

He encouraged Nigerians to continue engaging the Federal Government and sub-national leadership constructively to advocate for policies that prioritize public safety, systemic transparency, and national prosperity.

“It is through such collective commitment and responsible leadership that we can build a more peaceful, united, and prosperous Nigeria. May Almighty Allah continue to bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he concluded.
