…reaffirms Commitment to Restoring Water Production Capacity and Improving Water Supply Across Lagos State

IN further demonstration of his proactive, visionary and results-driven leadership, the Managing Director of the Lagos Water Corporation (LWC), Engr. Mukhtaar Temitope Tijani, today Tuesday, 4 August 2026, paid a routine inspection visit to the Iju Headworks to assess the progress of the ongoing rehabilitation project and installation of new pumping equipment.

The inspection forms part of the Corporation’s broader Lagos Water Renewal Programme aimed at revitalising critical water infrastructure, restoring production capacity, and improving potable water supply to residents across Lagos State.

During the visit, Engr. Tijani inspected the installation works, interacted with production managers, and representatives of KSB Pumps, and received detailed briefings on the status of the rehabilitation project.

Expressing satisfaction with the pace, quality and level of progress recorded, the Managing Director stated:

“We are at the Iju Waterworks to inspect the rehabilitation works being carried out by KSB Pumps, particularly the procured of six (6) brand-new clear water pumps and one (1) pump head to replace the existing ageing twelve (12) pumps at the Iju Waterworks.

“The work is progressing steadily. We are pleased with the progress recorded so far. Procurement has been completed, all the equipment has been completed and delivered to site, and installation is progressing as scheduled.

“This is a routine inspection to monitor the ongoing works, which form part of the larger Lagos Water Renewal Programme.”

Speaking further, Engr. Tijani disclosed that similar interventions are planned for the Akute Waterworks.

“At Akute Waterworks, the Corporation will procure two (2) brand-new raw water pumps with a combined abstraction capacity of 24 million gallons per day (MGD). The pumps are expected to arrive before the end of this month, after which installation will commence immediately.”

The Managing Director commended KSB Pumps for the professionalism, commitment and quality of work demonstrated since the commencement of the project.

“I commend KSB Pumps for the remarkable progress achieved so far. We look forward to the successful completion of this project so we can return the plant back producing more water for the residents of Lagos State.”

Responding on behalf of the contractor, the Project Manager, Engr. John Adetayo Gbadegesin of KSB Pumps, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to delivering the project within schedule.
According to him:

“The essence of this project is to ensure that Iju Waterworks is brought back to life and improve the supply of potable water to Lagos residents. This aligns with the vision of His Excellency, Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, and the transformational leadership of the Managing Director of Lagos Water Corporation, Engr. Mukhtaar Tijani.

“We are doing everything possible to ensure the successful completion of the project before the end of the year so that Lagosians can begin to enjoy the benefits of improved water supply.”

Earlier, the Production Manager, Iju Waterworks, Engr. Balogun Kamar, conducted the Managing Director, Engr. Mukhtaar Tijani, the Executive Director (Operations), Engr. (Mrs.) Helen Omolanke Taiwo, Director of Production, Engr. Agiri Mustapha, Director/Production Manager, Adiyan Waterworks, Engr. Olowe Julius, Director/Production Manager, Akute Waterworks, Engr. Olajide Kolawole, KSB Pumps Project Lead, Engr. Ebenezer Abbeku, and other officials on an inspection tour of Clear Water Stations 1 and 2, as well as the Power House.

He informed the delegation that all required equipment and components had been supplied, while installation works were progressing according to schedule. He expressed optimism that the project would be completed by October 2026, paving the way for increased water production and providing Lagos residents with a renewed and more reliable water supply.

The routine inspection underscores the unwavering commitment of the Lagos Water Corporation’s Management to closely monitor strategic infrastructure projects, ensure value for money, and accelerate the restoration of critical water assets in line with the Corporation’s Strategic Business Plan 2025–2030 and the Lagos State Government’s vision of providing sustainable and efficient water services for all.
