BI-COURTNEY Aviation Services Limited (BASL), operators of the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2), has concluded a three-day mid-year strategic management retreat themed “Leadership for Total Quality Delivery”, aimed at reinforcing its core values and positioning the organisation for its next phase of growth.

The retreat, held in Lagos, brought together senior management and key stakeholders to reflect on the organisation’s journey, strengthen leadership alignment and agree on strategic priorities for the road ahead.

In his opening remarks, the chairman of BASL, Dr Wale Babalakin, reaffirmed the company’s vision and reflected on its resilience in navigating various challenges over nearly two decades.

“From the outset, I believed in the potential of this project, even when many doubted that a private company could successfully develop and operate an airport terminal in Nigeria. We remain focused on that vision,” he said.

Reflecting on BASL’s journey, Dr Babalakin noted that the company has overcome significant challenges while building the institutional strength required to successfully operate MMA2.

“We have successfully managed this terminal for nearly 20 years. That achievement reflects the resilience and capability of our team. Our success is anchored on competence and integrity. These remain non-negotiable values, and I urge everyone to uphold them consistently,” he said.

“In the coming days, we will sign the settlement agreement to further position MMA2 internationally and advance our ambition of becoming a leading aviation hub in Africa,” he noted.

He acknowledged the support of the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu in resolving long-standing issues affecting the concession.

“With this progress comes greater responsibility. We must continue to lead with excellence, strengthen collaboration and build an organisation that inspires pride,” Dr Babalakin stated.

Mrs. Olubanwo Adeosun, Lead Consultant at O’BIA Consulting and facilitator of the retreat, described the session as an important opportunity for the leadership team to reflect on the organisation’s current position and strengthen alignment around its future direction.

“The retreat created an opportunity for the leadership team to have honest conversations about where the organisation is today, where it wants to go, and the leadership behaviours required to get there. What stood out was the willingness to reflect, engage and take collective responsibility for driving the desired change,” Adeosun said.

Speaking on the retreat, Mr Kola Bamigboye, Acting Chief Operating Officer/Head, Space and Premises Management, said the leadership team was energised by the retreat and committed to translating its outcomes into measurable actions across the organisation.
