President Bola Tinubu, Thursday August 6, 2026, flagged off construction of Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan and Osogbo-Akoda-Gbongan roads and urged the contractors to mobilise workers immediately to ensure completion of the projects within 24 months.

Represented by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, Tinubu disclosed that Osogbo-Iwo- Ibadan Road which is approximately 82km is in terrible condition. 

“The road originates Dele Yes-Sir Roundabout here in Osogbo

and it traverses various agricultural belt of Osun and Oyo States and it is the

shortest route from Osogbo to Ibadan. Major towns and villages along the road include Osogbo, Ara, Awo, Ede, Telemu, Iwo, Laagun and Ibadan,” Tinubu said.

The contract was awarded in the sum of N114,854,477,607.93 to Messrs Peculiar Concerns Limited with a completion period of 24 months. 

Also, the Gbongan – Osogbo Road is approximately 44km by 2 (88km) which

originates from old garage roundabout in Osogbo and traverses major towns

like Owode Ede, Akoda Ede, Sekona, Oogi, Odeomu later terminates at

Gbongan on Ife – Ibadan Expressway-a major road that links Osogbo, Ikirun,

Offa and Ilorin in Kwara State. 

The project seeks to upgrade the failed single carriageway of about 20km to a dual carriageway on Rigid Pavement (CRCP). A section of 15.55km from Osogbo to Akoda-Ede junction and the 8.6km section towards Gbongan which are already dualized but in terrible conditions will be reconstructed on Rigid Pavement (CRCP). 

“The Contract sum as awarded is in the sum of N101,806,515,825.09 to Messrs Trucrete Solutions Limited with a completion period of 24 months,” Tinubu said. 

He explained the road will have provision of solar powered street lighting; adequate drainage system; planting of trees/grasses and provision of layby where necessary; and provision of CCTv camera to monitor to ensure security of road users, urging the contractors to get the youths involved in the project.

The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, justified the spending of the loan incurred by the federal government, saying the infrastructure will have a multiply effect on the economy.

He explained that the Ibadan-Ife-llesha rehabilitation works and the dualization of the long overdue llesha-Akure-Owo-Benin road are being constructed on Rigid Pavement and at different stages of completion.

“The different Sections of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway. Section

1(Lagos) of this road has been substantially completed, section 2 (Ogun) has reached 80% Completion, Section 3A&3b (Akwa Ibom/ Cross River) has

reached 20% Completion, 4A&4B Akwa Ibom) has reached 5% completion

while section 5 has just been awarded and work is on-going. 

“On the Construction of Sokoto -Badagry road, Sections 1 (Sokoto) has

reached 40% Completion, Section 2 (Kebbi) has reached 60% completion,

section 3 (Ogun) has reached 18% completion and section 4 (Oyo) which is

recently awarded is moving on well. I have directed accelerated work on other sections of Sokoto – Badagry Superhighway and the project is moving on smoothly,” he said.

On the Trans-Sahara trade route, he explained that the route spans from Calabar-Ebonyi-Benue-Kogi-Nasarawa and ends at Abuja 3 Capital City, adding that Section 1 (Ebonyi) has reached 15% completion while section 2

(Benue) is undergoing mobilization and other sections are undergoing Engineering Design.

The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdurosheed Akanbi, and the Olufi of Gbongan, Oba Adetoyese Oyeniyi, commended President Tinubu for the approval, urging the people of the state to support Bola Oyebamiji as governor of Osun come August 15.

The national secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Ajibola Basiru, disclosed that Tinubu administration has constructed over 800 road works spanning 5,000km across the country.

He explained that the distributable allocation of N586 billion in April 2023 has risen to N2.5trillion in June this year, insisting that no excuse for the suffering of over 19 roads in Osogbo and Olorunda in Osun alone. 

The APC governorship candidate in Osun, Bola Oyebamiji, urged the electorates to continue canvassing until the Independent National Electoral Commission says they should stop.
