Ondo Govt Still Pays FG Hospital Staff Salary – CMD

The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Futa Teaching Hospital (FUTATH), Prof Olusegun Ojo, has faulted the claim that the Federal Government has taken over the payment of entire salaries of the hospital workforce.

Ojo, in a statement on Thursday, clarified the salary arrangement for workers following the hospital’s transition to a federal institution, saying that there are currently two categories of staff whose salaries are being paid by different tiers of government.

The CMD explained that permanent staff who were inherited from the former state-owned hospital remain on the payroll of the Ondo State Government, while the Federal Government has assumed responsibility for the salaries of non-regular staff engaged to sustain operations since the hospital became a federal teaching hospital.

The hospital stressed that comments recently credited to him were never intended to suggest that the Federal Government had taken over the payment of salaries for all workers.

According to him, the Federal Government’s intervention has specifically covered the remuneration of non-regular personnel recruited to ensure uninterrupted healthcare services during the transition period, while the Ondo State Government has continued to fulfil its obligation to permanent employees.

He noted that the arrangement is in line with the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Federal and Ondo State governments during the transfer of the hospital.

The statement said that both governments have continued to play their respective roles in ensuring the smooth operation of the institution pending the full implementation of the transition process.

While reaffirming its commitment to transparency and quality healthcare delivery, the statement urged members of the public and stakeholders to disregard misconceptions capable of creating unnecessary tension.

It also expressed appreciation to both the Federal and Ondo State governments for their continued support and appealed for sustained cooperation as the hospital consolidates its position as a federal tertiary health institution.
