The family of late Nollywood actress Temitope Osoba has dismissed widespread reports claiming to explain the circumstances surrounding her death, insisting that the information circulating across social media and some online platforms is false and unauthorised.

In a statement released via the actress’ official Instagram page, the family expressed concern over what it described as the growing spread of unverified claims, saying the speculation has added to the pain of losing a loved one.

The family stressed that it had not issued any statement explaining the cause or circumstances of Osoba’s death and urged the public to disregard all unofficial reports.

Family rejects speculation

Describing the reports as misleading, the family said the claims being shared online were entirely false and did not originate from any authorised source.

“On behalf of the family and loved ones of Temitope Osoba, we are deeply saddened by the spread of false and unverified reports concerning the passing of our beloved,” the statement read.

It added that the circulation of misinformation had caused unnecessary distress to relatives and close friends who are still mourning the actress.

“We respectfully urge the public to refrain from sharing or promoting misinformation that only adds to the pain our family is already enduring,” the statement added.

Calls for responsible reporting

The family appealed to journalists, bloggers and social media users to verify information before publication and avoid amplifying rumours, particularly on sensitive issues involving bereaved families.

It emphasised that no one had been authorised to speak on behalf of the family regarding the circumstances of Osoba’s death, warning that speculative reports only fuel confusion and emotional pain.

The statement further assured the public that any information the family decides to release would be communicated through official channels and authorised representatives.

“We ask the public and members of the media to rely solely on those official statements and to disregard all unverified reports,” it said.

Appreciation for public support

While calling for privacy during the mourning period, the family thanked Nigerians, fans, friends and colleagues of the actress for their prayers, condolences and messages of support.

The family of Awonuga/Osoba also urged the public to honour Temitope Osoba’s memory by respecting the family’s privacy and allowing them to grieve in peace.

The clarification follows days of intense speculation online, where conflicting accounts of the actress’ death have continued to circulate. The family, however, maintained that only information released through its official platforms should be regarded as authentic until further notice.
