Nasarawa State Governor and Chairman of the Media and Publicity Sub-Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Campaign Council for the August 15 Osun State governorship election, Governor Abdullahi Sule, has explained why President Bola Tinubu directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to unfreeze the Osun State Government’s accounts.

Tinubu, in a statement on Thursday, frowned at the timing of the anti-graft agency’s action.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja after a meeting of his subcommittee, Governor Sule said President Tinubu based his decision on the public perception and outrage trailing the EFCC’s action.

He said, “Mr. President has been fair because of the way it will be misunderstood. So even if there were actually reasons for the freezing of the accounts, since the public may misunderstand it, the President, being the fair person that he is, asked for the immediate unfreezing of the accounts.”

Governor Sule, however, dismissed insinuations that the EFCC was instigated by the ruling All Progressives Congress to take the action.

“Freezing of an account is not done by a political party. APC is not responsible for freezing any account whatsoever. Security agencies are security agencies of the nation, not of a political party.”

On preparations for the election, the Nasarawa State governor said the party was determined to win fairly by mobilising its supporters and convincing the Osun electorate why they should turn their backs on the Accord Party and its candidate, the incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke.

“We don’t want to win with hostility. We don’t want to win with any kind of approach other than peace. That is our approach when it comes to this election.”
