A fire has engulfed the AYM Shafa filling station in the Area 3 district of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The blaze, which broke out at about 10 p.m. on Thursday, was still raging as of the time of filing this report.

The cause of the fire could not be immediately determined. However, firefighters from the Federal Fire Service were on the ground battling the inferno to prevent it from spreading.

In a statement, the National Public Relations Officer of the Federal Fire Service, Paul Abraham, confirmed that emergency response teams had been deployed to contain the fire and protect nearby buildings and facilities.

He said firefighters were working tirelessly to bring the situation under control while ensuring the safety of residents and property.

“The Federal Fire Service empathises with everyone affected by the ongoing fire incident at AYM Shafa Petrol Station, Area 3, Abuja. We understand the concern this situation may have caused to residents, motorists, business owners, and members of the public, and we assure everyone that their safety remains our highest priority.

“Our firefighters are currently on the ground, working tirelessly and professionally to confine the fire, prevent its spread, and bring the situation under control as quickly and safely as possible,” Abraham said.

He urged residents to remain calm and avoid the area, stressing that emergency responders needed adequate space to carry out their operations effectively.

Abraham also advised motorists to use alternative routes to ease traffic congestion around the scene and cooperate with traffic management officials and other emergency agencies.

“The Federal Fire Service is doing everything within its operational capacity to manage the incident effectively. Further verified information will be communicated as more details become available,” he added.
