Leaders of the Tijaniyya Islamic movement from Nigeria, Algeria and Senegal have visited President Bola Tinubu to condole with him over the death of Dahiru Bauchi, the renowned Islamic scholar.
The delegation, which represented the Tijaniyya Supreme Council worldwide, met with Tinubu at the State House in Abuja on Friday.
The council said it represents more than 400 million members of the Tijaniyya movement worldwide.
According to a statement by Sunday Dare, special adviser to the president on media and public communications, the delegation included Ali Bin Arabi, grand Khalifa of the Tijaniyya in Algeria; Ibrahim Dahiru Bauchi; Senegalese Islamic scholar Muhammad Al-Mahy; and members of the Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi Foundation.
Dahiru Bauchi, former leader of the Tijaniyya Islamic organisation in Nigeria, died on November 26, 2025, at the age of 98.
Delivering the condolence message, Bin Arabi acknowledged the relationship and social and economic similarities between Nigeria and Algeria.
He prayed for the continued spiritual relationship between both countries, as well as peace and love in Nigeria and the physical and spiritual wellbeing of Tinubu.
Responding, Tinubu thanked the delegation for the visit and described Bauchi as a beloved father and great leader.
“We miss our father, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi. He was a beloved father and a great leader,” Tinubu said.
The president commended the Tijaniyya movement for its spiritual activities and contribution to Islam across Africa and the world.
“I respect you for what you are doing for Islam across Africa and the whole world. May God continue to guide you,” he said.
