APM Terminals cleans up Apapa port corridors in Go Green drive

APM Terminals Apapa employees on Friday cleaned major access roads around the Lagos Port Complex, removing plastics, bottles, wooden planks and other waste as part of the company’s 2026 Go Green Week.

The exercise covered the corridor from Finger Jetty through the common user road to Eko Support Services, the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Roundabout, Adekunle Road and the main gate of APM Terminals Apapa.

Employees of the NPA also joined the exercise, which focused on removing waste and debris that had accumulated along the port corridors.

Felix Ugwuagbo, health, safety and environment manager at APM Terminals Apapa, said the exercise was intended to extend the company’s environmental efforts beyond its terminal.

“A clean port is a safer, healthier and more efficient port, and that directly supports trade, protects the wellbeing of workers and strengthens the resilience of Nigeria’s supply chain,” he said.

Umar Ibrahim, assistant manager, NPA Environment, Lagos Port Complex Apapa, said effective waste management was important for maintaining safe and efficient port operations.

“Prompt waste removal helps reduce environmental hazards, improves air quality and contributes to safer, more efficient port operations,” Ibrahim said.

APM Terminals also planted more than 25 bags of frangipani plants and Pride of Barbados seeds during the week to improve green spaces and support biodiversity within its facility.

Kamal Alhraishat, managing director at APM Apapa, said the campaign was intended to encourage greater environmental responsibility among port stakeholders.

APM Terminals will also hold an environmental town hall for employees on waste management and environmentally responsible practices as part of the campaign. The company hopes to achieve net-zero operations by 2040.
