National Director of Media Monitoring and Rapid Response of the City Boy Movement, Bashir Ahmad, has denied claims that he secured only 16 votes during the 2022 All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election.

Akelicious reports that the controversy surrounding Bashir’s failure to secure the APC ticket for the House of Representatives in 2022 resurfaced on Thursday.

The issue gained renewed attention after Afrobeat singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, mocked the APC chieftain in a viral post on Thursday, claiming that Bashir scored just 16 votes in the primary election.

However, Bashir, in a post on his official X handle on Friday, dismissed the claim, insisting that no credible primary election was conducted.

He alleged that there was verifiable evidence showing that the process was rigged, adding that he would have won if the election had been conducted transparently.

Bashir urged Davido, his supporters and others to stop circulating what he described as misleading figures from the disputed exercise.

He said:

“I feel it is important to say this unequivocally that it is simply not true that I got 16 votes.

“The reality is that there was no credible primary election in the first place.

“If there had been, I am very confident I would have been the winner. There is verifiable evidence of how the process was rigged, including videos and other materials that support my claim.

“Therefore, any figures being circulated by Davido, his supporters or anyone else from that purported exercise are misleading and do not reflect a transparent, legitimate or credible primary election.

“The full story will be told at the appropriate time.”
