Indian woman who was denied weekly offs, job dies by suicide

Nageshwari, a 45-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide at her residence in Mysuru, India, leaving behind a note where she accused a supervisor of mentally torturing her at work.

According to India Today, Nageshwari used to work at a supermarket, where she had been employed for several years.

In a note recovered from the scene, Nageshwari, purportedly alleged that she faced mental harassment by a newly appointed supervisor named Dolly.

She wrote that she was denied weekly offs and was also pressured to admit to mistakes that were not even hers to begin with. Nageshwari also alleged that she was abruptly dismissed from her job after remaining absent for two to three days due to illness.

She said in the note that she was forced to take the extreme step as she was deeply distressed by the way she was treated at work.

Her husband, Ashok, was quoted as saying that his wife was found lying lifeless on the floor of their house on Friday. He was outside when she allegedly consumed a poisonous substance.

Ashok reportedly made several calls to her during the afternoon, and, growing concerned when she did not respond, rushed home to check on her.

He immediately took Nageshwari to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead. The police are investigating the allegations mentioned in the note and the circumstances surrounding the death.
