Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has said Tehran and Washington are currently not engaged in direct negotiations, although messages between both sides continue to be exchanged through intermediaries.

Araqchi reiterated Tehran’s position that any future engagement with the United States would depend on Washington fulfilling its commitments under the June interim deal.

On the Strait of Hormuz, Araqchi said Iran and Oman were close to finalising an agreement concerning the strategic waterway.

However, he clarified that the agreement would not immediately lead to the reopening of the strait to international shipping.

According to comments reported by Mehr News Agency, the proposed arrangement would establish new shipping routes that vessels could use once the United States fulfils other conditions set by Tehran and the waterway is reopened.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical shipping routes, carrying a significant share of global oil supplies.

Araqchi’s remarks come as diplomatic channels between Tehran and Washington remain active through intermediaries, despite the absence of direct negotiations.
